Taylor Rule
Definition
A formula prescribing how a central bank should set its policy rate in response to inflation and the output gap. Often used as a benchmark for actual policy.

John Taylor's original rule: rate = 2% + π + 0.5×(π − 2%) + 0.5×output gap.
