Bank Run
Definition
A sudden mass withdrawal by depositors who fear a bank's failure — which can cause the failure they fear. Deposit insurance and lender-of-last-resort facilities exist largely to prevent runs.
Example
Silicon Valley Bank's depositors pulled $42 billion in a single day in March 2023.
