Quasi-Linear Utility

Definition

Utility that is linear in one good (typically money) and concave in others. Makes welfare analysis tractable — income effects vanish for the non-linear good, while the linear good (money) absorbs all income changes.

Example

U(x, m) = v(x) + m, where m is money spent on other goods.
