Cobb-Douglas Utility

Definition

A utility function of the form U = xᵃyᵇ. Gives constant expenditure shares, neat first-order conditions, and is a workhorse in textbooks.

Example

U = x^0.4 y^0.6 means the consumer spends 40% of income on x and 60% on y at every price.
