Government Spending
Definition
Government purchases of goods and services — the "G" in GDP. (Transfer payments such as Social Security are part of total outlays but are excluded from GDP.) A direct lever for fiscal policy.
Example
Building roads, paying soldiers, funding research are all government spending.
