Laffer Curve

Definition

A relationship between tax rates and tax revenue: at 0% and 100% rates, revenue is zero; somewhere in between is the maximum. Often invoked, harder to pin down empirically.

Example

Estimates of the revenue-maximizing top income-tax rate cluster around 50–70%, varying with assumptions.
