Agency Cost

Definition

The cost imposed when an agent (e.g. a manager) acts in their own interest rather than the principal's (e.g. shareholders'). Monitoring, bonding, and residual loss all count.

Example

Executive perks and excessive risk-taking by managers are classic agency costs.
