Deadweight Loss
Definition
Lost economic surplus when a market produces less (or more) than the efficient quantity — due to taxes, price floors, monopolies, etc. Nobody captures the lost value.
Example
A high tax on a good causes some mutually beneficial trades to never happen — that's deadweight loss.
