Cournot Competition

Definition

An oligopoly model where firms choose quantities simultaneously, taking competitors' output as given. Equilibrium output is between monopoly and perfect competition.

Example

Two refineries each deciding how much oil to produce, anticipating the other's choice, settle at Cournot output.
