Average Cost
Definition
Total cost divided by quantity produced. The U-shape comes from spreading fixed costs over more units (falls), then diminishing returns kicking in (rises).
Example
A factory with $1,000 fixed cost making 100 widgets at $2 variable cost each: average cost = $12.
